Economic Opportunity
Our Economic Opportunity CAN, formerly, the Social Connection CAN, emerged from a recognition that, in order to transform the landscape of opportunity, we need to tackle the underlying economic forces that drive residents’ vulnerability. Through collaboration and community listening, our group identified income, wages, and employment as the CAN’s central focus area. For CAN strategies to be successful, the CAN must build its collective strength and capacity by aligning key stakeholders around a common goal and mutually reinforcing activities.
The Economic Opportunity CAN is dedicated to increasing economic and financial stability by building a comprehensive continuum of immediate stabilizing support as we work to build bold systems change agenda around income, wages, and employment.
In this CAN, we are currently working to develop a population-level indicator to track the progress of our interventions. We are piloting to innovative “stabilizing” strategies: CARE/FERA Utility Discount Program and Mission Asset Fund Leaning Circles.
